This is the time for the arty farty and the collectors to descend at the NSIC grounds in Okhla where the fifth edition of India Art Fair started on Thursday. The fair features 103 exhibitors from 23 countries. It is laid out in three adjacent gallery space with separate sections devoted to multi-media art and a speakers’ forum which will host more than 40 speakers over three days. From masters to relative newbies — they are all there with their works. So you have works by Akbar Padamsee in a solo by Priyasri Art Gallery. On display are his recent oils along with a 12 ft mirror image, oil on canvas along with his other important oils. Artists include Ravi Gosain, Vishakha Apte, Saptarshi Das, Dhanur Goyal, Rashmi Mala and Tanya Gill.Kolkata gallery Experimenter is showing works by Bani Abidi, Rathin Burman, Adip Dutta, Nadia Kaabilinke, Naeem Mohaiemen and Hajra Waheed. The focal point? All of them respond to the moment of fracture of cities under crisis, duress, revolution and the taut and fragile relationship of people who live in them.Kathakari by Sidharth at the Gallery Art Konsult booth is about India’s ancient art of storytelling where the artist reinvents the tradition, picking up the anecdotes and characters from his life and turning them into visuals.Then Absolut is showcasing the collections which include Absolut Seth, Absolut Kher and Absolut Subodh Gupta.Worth a watch!
