first_imgGlenswilly have bowed out of the Ulster SFC at the quarter-final juncture after a brave display against a classy Kilcoo side. Michael Canning’s side lost out by six points in the end, but it was much closer than the scoreboard suggested at the end.It was evenly poised contest throughout, but when Cathal Gallagher was sent off ten minutes into the second-half – it proved to be a big turning point. Gallagher has been inspirational all season but he spurned a glorious opportunity to put Glenswilly five points ahead early in the second-half.Moments later he was adjudged to have fouled Conor Laverty inside the square and the referee awarded a penalty. To make matters worse he gave Gallagher a straight red card which seemed extremely harsh even if it was quite a high tackle.O’Hanlon expertly dispatched the penalty and that put Kilcoo one point ahead with fifteen minutes left to play. Kilcoo really clicked into gear after this and showed their greater experience at this level to pull away in the closing stages. The Down champions have won five titles in-a-row and are desperate to make an impact at provincial level. They scored 1-5 without reply to put the men from Foxhall to the sword.Glenswilly never give up and they tried gamely to the end, they lost Brian Farrelly late on and finished the game with 13 men. However, they can be proud of their efforts this afternoon, on another day it could’ve been so different for Glenswilly, but it wasn’t to be.
